The money math, plain English
When a fan tips, they pay a small fee on top of the tip. It works the same way it does when you tip on a card at a coffee shop or restaurant.
Example: fan tips $10
- The fan pays $10.40 total ($10 tip + $0.40 fee)
- Square (the payment processor) takes $0.30
- Tiply takes $0.10
- You keep the full $10.
Example: fan tips $20
- The fan pays $20.80 total ($20 + $0.80 fee)
- Square takes $0.60
- Tiply takes $0.20
- You keep the full $20.
Every dollar a fan tips lands in your Square-connected bank account. No minimum payout threshold. No delayed holds. Square handles the payout — usually within 1–2 business days.
Why we don't charge artists
We think artists already give up enough of what they earn — venue cuts, manager fees, gear, gas, late nights. Tiply isn't going to add to that pile.
Offloading the processing fee to the fan lets us stay free for every musician forever, while still running a sustainable business. That 1% is how we pay the team, keep the app up, and keep building features you ask for.
It's a small, honest business model. We're happy with it.

Frequently asked pricing questions
Is Tiply really free?
Yes. 100% free for musicians. No subscription, no setup cost, no hidden artist fee.
How does Tiply make money?
From the 1% Tiply cut of the 4% processing fee paid by the fan. Artists pay nothing. You can see the exact math in Section 2 above.
Does the 4% processing fee apply to every tip?
Yes, every tip. It's a flat 4% that the fan pays on top of their tip — not a percentage taken from the artist.
Will fans get annoyed by the fee?
In practice, no. Fans are used to small fees on card transactions — it's the same experience as any restaurant, coffee shop, or ride-share. The fee is shown up front, transparently, before they confirm the tip.
Is there a minimum tip amount?
Yes — $1. This keeps Tiply sustainable for everyone given Square's processing rules.
Is there a minimum payout from my bank?
No. Every tip lands in your bank account through Square. No threshold to reach before getting paid.
Does Tiply ever hold my money?
No. Tips go directly from the fan through Square to your bank account. Tiply never touches the funds.
Will pricing change?
We don't have plans to charge artists, ever. If we ever introduce paid features, they'd be genuinely optional — and the core Tiply experience (QR code, tips, requests, queue, payouts) stays free.
What payment methods do fans use?
Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover — all processed through Square.
How does this compare to Venmo or Cash App?
Venmo and Cash App don't take credit cards cross-user, don't have a song request queue, don't share queues with a band, and don't track your earnings across gigs. See the full Tiply vs Venmo breakdown.
